With increasing age, our toenails have been through a lot! They may get harder or more brittle, they may develop fungal infections.
As we age you may find that your nails don’t grow as fast or they tend to grow thick. This is due to reductions in our circulation, changes in our medical history and even can be down to the medicines we take.
Cutting your toenails every 8 to 12 weeks is important to keep them short and thinned down. This makes them more comfortable in our shoes and keeps our feet pain free to help keep us active! It also reduces the risks of any lesions developing on our toes.
Your feet may feel like they are getting further away, bending down may be a challenge, or your eyesight might not be as sharp. Having a podiatrist check and cut them for you every few months will help to keep them healthy.

If you suffer with painful in-growing toenails, having them cut every 6 weeks may be better to treat them before they start hurting.
If they are thick and hard, it is impossible to cut them with clippers! Come and see your podiatrist every 8-10 weeks so that we can thin them down and maintain them for you.
If you would like to see one of our podiatrist or practitioners, head over to our bookings system and book an appointment. We would love to help you!
